I am an accredited psychoanalytic psychotherapist and an EMDR Europe Accredited Consultant. I completed a Masters degree in Clinical Science at the University of Kent, where I trained in aspects of client care including medication, various psychiatric and psychological models of the mind, CBT, and research methodology.
I was for some time an honorary psychotherapist at St Martin’s hospital in Canterbury working with people suffering from psychosis, usually seeing them in their own homes. I worked for almost ten years at Mandy Saligari’s clinic, Charter (a specialist, progressive service for addiction). For several of those years, I was clinical manager and one of the senior clinicians.
I am a group psychotherapist, and have worked with couples and families. I specialise in working with people who have problems relating to addiction, dependency, and the effects of oppression.
Neuropsychoanalysis increasingly feels like the right word to introduce my work, though I wouldn’t want to get too tightly bound up in any one model. I'm more interested in what comes from thinking about neurology than what happens if you start thinking 'psychologically'. Psychoanalytically, my work is shaped by a wide range of thinkers, among them: Freud, Fanon, Solms, Coltart, Knox, Wood, Alleyne, McWilliams, Bion, Eigen, Ogden and Stern.
I'm interested in dreams and how they offer ways of thinking about the unthinkable (which is a word I use to describe traumatic experience), and thoughts about reading and writing which correspond to listening and speaking. I have a hack's appreciation of Fred Moten, Jacques Derrida, Walter Benjamin and various other thinkers who seem to understand the way life happens.
Psychotherapy and EMDR can as easily, as effectively, happen under a tree in the rain, during a telephone conversation or over a Zoom link as it might in a consulting room. Most work falls apart when it threatens the psychotherapist's sense of security or fails to respect the client's.
I am fully accredited by UKCP, and a member of the EMDR Association, the Council for Psychoanalysis & Jungian Analysis and the International Neuropsychoanalysis Society.
